Patek Philippe Calatrava (6006G001) self-winding automatic watch, features a 39mm 18k white gold case surrounding a black dial on a blue alligator strap with an 18k white gold Calatrava Cross deployant buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, small seconds and date.
The 18-karate white gold Patek Phlippe Calatrava 6000G is the bad-boy of the Calatrava lineup. Sure, the immortal blended lugs, exposed crown, subsidiary seconds, and traditional proportions are present and correct. But the clear automotive inspiration of the dial makes this a hardcore cult watch among independently-minded Patek Philippe aficionados.
The Calatrava 6000G-001 debuted in 2005 with a black dial, 37mm case, and in-house Patek Philippe caliber 240 micro-rotor movement.
Between this variant's debut in 2008 and the July 2009 discontinuation of Geneva Hallmark movements in Patek Philippe watches, a comparatively small number of Calatrava 6000G watches were built; recall that the model has been constructed with virtually no other changes from 2008-2015.
All of the key features of the Calatrava 6000G are here. Its famed "roadster" dial with multiple layers, clashing inward/outward emphasis, and staggered rings of calibrations defines the character of the watch. It's the opposite of austere; this watch has presence and a technical bent.
Like the dashboard dials of a vintage sports car, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6000G expresses itself as a precision instrument, not an ornament. This is a dress watch with the soul and charm of a sports watch.
Inside the sinuous 37mm white gold case beats a Patek Philippe all-time great movement. The caliber 240, arguably the watchmaker's finest movement since 1977, provides a reliable and ultra-thin "motor" for the "sports car" of the Calatrava line. Patek Philippe's signature "Gyromax" free-sprung balance provides accuracy and stability in the face of shocks and temperature swings. The famed Geneva Hallmark finishing standard means all polish gleams with a mirror shine, and a tradition dating to the 1880s lives in glory on the wrist of the fortunate owner.
