Launched at Baselworld 2018, the Patek Philippe 5270P-001 is the first ever Patek Philippe 5270 to be offered in platinum. This 41mm perpetual calendar chronograph stuns with its salmon dial (Patek calls this "Golden Opaline") and the impressive mass of its platinum 950 case. The top Wesselton diamond between the lugs completes an impressive array of rich refinements.
Although the Patek Philippe 5270 has been available since 2011, the model never shipped in platinum until the 2018 debut of the 5270P. More than another grand complication, this watch synthesizes all that watch buyers love about Patek Philippe while offering a more compelling case for application, approval, waiting, and purchase than any previous version of the 5270.
The golden opaline dial -- a salmon dial for all intents -- is a warm but muted statement of restrained elegance. The dial base is matte, not sunburst, and the watch face tends to glow in direct light rather than explode. Patek Philippe employs white gold Arabic numerals, hour indices, and leaf (feuille) hands to trace the time and chronograph interval. A perpetual calendar with moon phase, day, date, month, and leap-year displays time across the intervals of irregular length months and years.
The Patek Philippe caliber CH 29-535 PS Q is a manual wind manufacture movement with a 65-hour power reserve. A Gyromax-style free sprung balance beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Superb timekeeping in any position is assured via six-position adjustment and a Breguet overcoil hairspring.
This movement is a column wheel chronograph with a traditional lateral clutch engagement. The lateral clutch is jeweled in full, and the action is crisp to the touch. Stop seconds (hacking) is provided, and the 33 jewel movement is provided with the Patek Philippe seal; -3/+2 second per day timing precision is guaranteed.
All aspects of the caliber CH 29-535 PS Q are finished impeccably. The chronograph clutch and levers are satin finished with a mirrored bevel; the column wheel cap and all screws are black polished. Mirrored "anglage" (chamfering) is evident on all bridges, and immaculate cotes de Geneve are aligned across the bridge tops. Patek Philippe chamfers the slots of all screws, and the base plate features engine turning in the form of overlapping "perlage" patterns.
Patek Philippe fits its flagship 5270 chronograph with a full platinum deployment clasp and an alligator leather strap. For easy of removal, the strap includes pull-tab spring bars.
