This may be the rarest and most desirable Vacheron Constantin Overseas watch model; the Overseas Ultra-Thin 2000V/120G-B122. As a boutique exclusive in 18-karat white gold, this 7.6mm thick wonder is a rare sight even within the halls of Geneva's SIHH. As a sports watch that can double as a dress watch, the Overseas Ultra Thin is a valid solution to the challenge of choosing one watch for all occasions.
Launched in 2016, the Overseas Ultra-Thin became Vacheron Constantin's long-awaited response to the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin Jumbo 15202. At 40mm, the Vacheron Ultra-Thin is a viable contender against the aforementioned industry standards, but at 7.6mm thick the Overseas is thinner than any Nautilus, Aquanaut, or Royal Oak.
Part of the key to this svelte construction is Vacheron watchmakers' choice to dispense with a date. Unlike the Nautilus and Royal Oak, the reference 2000V includes only two hands, no date, and a perfectly balanced dial of sunburst grey. White gold hands and hour indices float about the anthracite metallic base, and the subtle contrast of blue Arabic numerals sits outboard of the hours. Super Luminova permits easy reading after dark.
Each Overseas Ultra-Thin features a case that resembles a significantly slimmer variant of the standard generation three models. Unlike the chronograph, dual time, and tourbillon models, the Ultra nearly disappears in profile. That said, its bracelet and straps are exactly as featured on the regular models. Quick release lugs permit easy rotation between the standard white gold bracelet, the rubber strap, and the leather strap.
Inside the case sits a Vacheron Constantin caliber 1120/3 automatic movement. Descended from the Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 920 ebauche, this 40-hour automatic today is manufactured and finished in-house by Vacheron. The 36-jewel caliber 1120 beats at an anachronistic 19,800 vph rate that betrays its late 1960s origin, but this is a beautiful anachronism. Vacheron Constantin decorates the caliber 1120 richly and earns the Geneva Hallmark for its trouble.
Thanks to a screw-down crown, the 50-meter water resistance can be taken seriously. A paramagnetic ring around the movement fortifies this machine against magnetic field of up to 25,000 ampere per meter field density.
The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ultra-Thin Boutique Exclusive reference 2000V/120G-B122 features a 40mm 18k white gold case surrounding a grey dial on an 18k white gold bracelet with folding buckle. Functions include hours and minutes. The watch also measures 7.6mm in thickness and 48.5mm from lug-to-lug.
