Tim Mosso tackles his first love, Omega watches. Tonight's show looks towards the 2025 Omega watch novelties and new releases from the perspective of Tim's long experience in the watch industry. With Omega Speedmaster and Omega Seamaster changes around the corner, it's time to predict what Rolex's greatest rival will offer next year.
The Omega Speedmaster receives regular updates and new additions, but the last full-line redesign of the iconic Moonwatch took place in 2021. Now, the time has arrived to revisit the ceramic Moonwatch models such as the Dark Side of the Moon and Grey Side of the Moon. With their 44.25mm cases, the ceramic Speedmaster chronographs always wore large. It doesn't have to be that way.
Tim predicts that a 42mm ceramic Speedmaster will arrive for watch collectors who value its durability but can't wear an oversized watch. If Omega really wants to dazzle watch buyers, a full ceramic Speedmaster Professional with a matching full ceramic bracelet would be the ultimate flex. Few watch brands have the technical capability, economies of scale, or audacity to sell an affordable full ceramic bracelet, but Omega, the jewel of Swatch Group, has all three.
For its signature dive watches, Omega is likely to redesign the Seamaster Planet Ocean collection. While updated periodically - recall the 2022 Planet Ocean Ultra Deep - the last full-line reboot of the Planet Ocean series came at Baselworld 2016. With the benefit of nearly a decade's experience and client feedback, Omega likely will focus on building smaller Planet Ocean divers, thinner cases, and possibly offer an alternative to the well-known Omega screw-down helium gas escape valve.
If Omega's watchmakers and product manages want to get serious about differentiating the PO from the PloProfs and the Diver 300M, it would pay to consider more titanium case options and possibly lugless cases to better fit any wrist size. Given the success of the 39.5mm "midsize" Planet Ocean dive watch, possibly expansion of that case across the model line is a real possibility.
