Week after week, we assess the state of the watch market, identifying trends, buying opportunities, and of course, what has most recently landed in WatchBox’s inventory. Among the unintended consequences of a brand’s momentum is that it is either front and center in the Market Wrap dialogue or seemingly overlooked. So today, we are dedicating this episode to Audemars Piguet, a brand admired by vintage and contemporary watch collectors alike, and one that doesn’t make its way into the conversation nearly enough.
Mike kicks off the episode with three exceptional new arrivals, each from Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak family. First up is the Royal Oak Tourbillon, constructed with a stainless steel case and bracelet and a striking black “Petite Tapisserie” dial, followed by the beloved 15202 in yellow gold, and the 20th anniversary Royal Oak Chronograph in titanium and platinum, which came to market in 2017 and just arrived at WatchBox.
Tune into the episode as Mike explores the trajectory of Audemars Piguet and the Royal Oak, from the introduction of the 5402 in 1972, to the Offshore in the early 1990s, and the limited editions, colors, hype, and exquisite watchmaking along the way. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of this iconic model. What do you think AP will do to mark the milestone?
This week’s Market Wrap concludes with a number of watches we are interested in acquiring for WatchBox’s inventory, including the Rolex Explorer II, the Rolex Submariner No-Date, and A. Lange & Söhne’s Double Split. Contact one of our client advisors [[email protected]] to talk about the process of selling your watch to WatchBox – whether you have one of these models or another timepiece you wish to sell or trade.
