Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra: Is It The Best Luxury Watch For Your Money?
Watches Tonight with Tim Mosso

The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra is the best watch for your money, and tonight's show will help watch collectors choose the perfect watch. Between the formality of the De Ville collection and the hardcore Seamaster Professional dive watches, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra family offers every conceivable size, metal, style, function, and price point. With the Omega Aqua Terra having launched in 2002 and run continuously ever since, the collection offers an ideal match for any watch enthusiast to buy and love.
Tim's favorite Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra is the annual calendar model. Originally launched at Baselworld 2010. Case sizes include 43mm and 38.5mm, and the latter is Tim's clear preference. Both case sizes represent one of the best watches available for men, and the 38.5mm model is particularly attractive to women who collect watches. As with other Aqua Terra watch models, the Annual Calendar includes water resistance to 150 meters and antimagnetic resistance afforded by a silicon hairspring and antimagnetic escapement components.
The annual calendar's innovation is the use of a month-date display that requires only one correction per year during the transition from February to March. This complication debuted on the 2008 Omega Hour Vision before making the jump to the Seamaster family with the Aqua Terra. Omega caliber 8601 compares favorably to Rolex movements while boasting several refinements that Rolex lacks. Twin mainspring barrels ensure that this Seamaster suffers less of the torque flux and resulting balance amplitude variation than the Rolex caliber 3235 found in Datejust models. Omega certifies the caliber 8601 as a COSC qualified Swiss chronometer.
Moreover, the Omega Aqua Terra includes additional features not found on the men's Rolex Datejust including a sapphire display caseback, the silicon hairspring, a co-axial escapement conceived by George Daniels and refined by Omega; factory rubber strap options for use in water; and significant aftermarket depreciation that makes every Seamaster Aqua Terra more affordable as a used watch.
Several versions of the Seamaster Aqua Terra Annual Calendar exist. In addition to the availability of two case sizes, several case materials, dial colors as well as the option of choosing between straps and bracelets present themselves. Retail prices for this Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra variant range from a high of $37,500 for a rose gold watch on a matching rose gold bracelet to $8,300 for a stainless steel annual calendar on a strap. These options make the Aqua Terra Annual Calendar a watch that a buyer can tailor to his needs as a dress watch or a sports watch.
All of this plus watch collector wrist shots will be featured in this episode of "Watches Tonight!"
