Omega vs Breitling - Who Wins?
Watches Tonight with Tim Mosso

Tim Mosso explores the renewed rivalry between luxury watch titans Omega and Breitling. Once an also-ran, Breitling has been rehabilitated in the marketplace and offers competitive watches in all classes. As Rolex has moved upmarket, Omega and its Speedmaster have been left in possession of the mid-market field. Tonight, Tim compares watches from Omega and Breitling.
The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is an all-time great and an iconic design. From the mid-1960s, the Speedmaster Professional has played a role in all manned NASA spaceflight missions. Most famous for its role in recovering the crippled Apollo XIII command module, the Speedmaster Moonwatch also plies more mundane trades on the wrists of watch collectors firmly anchored to Earth. With its classic 42mm case profile, hesalite (thermoplastic) crystal, and Lemania-based chronograph caliber, the Speedmaster Professional trades on its authenticity as a professional tool that any enthusiast can purchase.
The Breitling Navitimer is a long-running model family better understood as a collection of references rather than a single definitive model. Unlike the Speedmaster Professional, there is no one Navitimer that can be described as the "core" version of the famous calculator bezel chronograph. However, the Navitimer Ref 806 1959 Re-Edition comes closest to the 1952 original in size, style, and specifications. At 41mm in diameter with a Plexiglas crystal, small beaded bezel, black-on-black subdials, and manual winding, the 1959 Re-Edition is a modern version of an old watch designed to feel like the genuine article.
These famous pilot's watches, dive watches, and tourbillon watches face off tonight as Tim Mosso compares watches from Breitling and Omega.
All of this plus live discussion and watch collector wrist shots appears tonight on "Watches Tonight!"
