Rolex Submariner "Hulk" 116610LV Review
7m 20s
We’re discussing a legend in its own time—the Rolex Submariner “Hulk” 116610LV. Watch this in-depth review to learn more about this “it” watch from the 2010s.
Period-Defining Timepiece (0:36)
This model is up there as one of the greats. Similar to the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Silver Snoopy, the 2012 Audemars Piguet ref. 15202 with the revised dial, or the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5164 Travel Time, this watch defines an era and will undoubtedly become a prized collectors piece.
The Design (1:23)
In 2003, Rolex gave us the first ever combination of green cues on a Submariner with the LV green bezel. However, this model was released in 2010 and replaced that anniversary model, gaining a new nickname—you guessed it, the “Hulk.” This piece is 16cm in circumference and is far larger than Rolex’s 40mm case watches. In fact, it wears more like a 42mm or 43mm timepiece. Additionally, the bracelet is a current generation Rolex bracelet, making all of the links solid, finished off with the glide lock clasp system. Lastly, it’s made of Rolex’s own 904L steel alloy which holds the polish and satin finish.
The Bezel (4:22)
As part of the Hulk’s core identity, Rolex’s proprietary Cerachrom with platinum in laid deposits are used to create the numerals and indices. Also, the pearl itself features a sapphire cap over the luminova pane. For those who seek durability, not to worry—this bezel is scratch-resistant and features a captivating glossy green coat. Overall, the bezel is a pleasure to use and offers wearers a 60-minute timer that’s convenient for anyone, even if you never take a dive.
The Dial (5:01)
This iconic watch features a sunburst green dial that was formally declared a “green gold.” However, it is not a conventional 18ct alloy, so Rolex has since started calling it a sunburst dial. The hands and the indices pair nicely with the dial, sticking out in bright 18ct white gold.
The Crown Guards (5:58)
Big, burly, and shouldered around the crown itself, the crown and the screwed-in caseback endow the watch with 300m water resistance.
The Caliber (6:07)
Inside, Rolex’s proprietary in-house caliber 3135 automatic ticks away, boasting a 48-hour power reserve and is a COSC-certified chronometer.
