Launched in 1966 as part of the Omega Geneve line, the Omega Chronostop Chronograph remains a cult watch among vintage Omega chronographs. The Chronostop was upgraded from caliber 865 to caliber 920 with a date in 1968; this Italian market Chronostop with caliber 920 arrived in 1970.
The 41.5mm Omega Chronostop case is composed of stainless steel and is believed to have been constructed by Fontana for the Italian market. With modular lugs, a round profile, and a screwed-in caseback, the Chronostop 146.012 was a sports watch to rival Omega's own Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch.
The dial of the Omega Chronostop 146.012 is a silver sunburst with applied hour indices. Caliber 920 provides a date indicator, and the seconds hand operates at will via a monopusher chronograph arrangement. The chronograph measures only durations of sixty seconds or less, and the hand will continue to circulate until stopped and reset. A plexiglas crystal is period-correct and includes the essential Omega logo at dead center above the hands.
The Omega bracelet fitted to this example is a 1153 with 138 end links. A folding clasp with adjustment options keeps the watch secure, but the bracelet and clasp show the signs of their age. Please examine all images of the watch on our website as a supplement to this video preview.
Omega caliber 920 is based on the Moonwatch caliber 861. This manual wind movement includes a 40 hour power reserve, monopusher chronograph, date, 21,600 vibration per hour rate, and 17 jewels. The chronograph operates by means of a cam system and a lateral clutch.
The Vintage Omega Chronostop chronograph 146.012 is encased in 41mm of stainless steel surrounding a silver dial on a stainless steel bracelet. Features include hours, minutes, seconds, date, and chronograph. The watch also measures 12.8mm in thickness and 48mm from lug-to-lug.
