Buying luxury products can be frustrating. By their nature, luxury watches tend to be rare compared to normal consumer items. Prices can be prohibitive, and supply often is scarce even at authorized dealers of major watch brands. The best way to get started in the luxury watch hobby is to socialize, meet experienced collectors, and visit live events where watches are on hand. That might mean contacting brand boutiques for schedules of events or making plans to attend major watch industry events like Watches & Wonders, WatchTime New York, or Dubai Watch Week.

In addition to the live events, online watch communities like Watchprosite, Watchuseek, TimeZone, and Rolex Forums provide outlets for enthusiasm and chances to learn more about watches. Social media generally is less useful due to the artificial influence of underlying algorithms that push specific mainstream watches to all accounts. Watch bulletin boards, discussion sites, and brand-focused communities tend to offer a better and more diverse understanding of options available to new collectors and the relative quality of watches being considered for purchase.
