The 2018 Zenith Defy El Primero 21 blue dial (95.9002.9004/78.R584) launched during SIHH 2018 as a supplement to the celebrated EL Primero foudroyant 1/100th second chronograph of 2017. Each example of the 2018 Zenith Defy El Primero 21 Blue adds a metallic blue skeleton dials that doubles as the base plate of Zenith El Primero caliber 9004.

As with the 2017 Zenith Defy El Primero, the 2018 blue model includes a 44mm grade 5 titanium case inspired by vintage Zenith watches of the 1970s. Watch buyers are treated to a new dial style that keeps the underlying automatic in house caliber visible; this one features two balances operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour and 360,000 for the chronograph.

Zenith caliber 9004 is a 53 jewel automatic that combines a classic El Primero chronograph movement with the 360,000 VpH chronograph module and second escapement of the TAG Heuer Carrera 360. The movement has a 50 hour power reserve that can be wound manually or by the automatic rotor; the chronograph power reserve lasts for 50 minutes and must be wound manually from the crown. In a distinct break from previous Zenith El Primero movements, this caliber 9004 includes a hacking (stop seconds feature).

In addition to the security of 100-meter water resistance, the Zenith Defy El Primero is certified as a COSC recognized Swiss chronometer. The skeleton dial includes appliqué hour indices and hands with super luminova for night time visibility. A power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock allows watch buyers and watch collectors to monitor the remaining chronograph energy while wearing this watch.

The Zenith Defy El Primero 21 is encased in 44mm of titanium surrounding a skeleton dial on a blue leather strap. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, and chronograph. The watch also measures 14.7mm in thickness and 50.3mm from lug-to-lug.
