Watches & Wonders 2023 is here, and the 2023 Rolex Daytona has been launched as a new reference with a new dial, case, and movement. Basic Rolex Daytona 126500LN resumes the red-hot record of the previous chronograph while the flagship platinum Daytona includes the model's first-ever display caseback. This show offers news and reviews covering all the major Rolex watch releases at Watches and Wonders 2023.
The Rolex Daytona was last redesigned in 2000, so a new generation of Rolex's racing chronograph is a major event. Fittingly, 2023 also marks the 60th anniversary of the Cosmograph Daytona - the most coveted trophy in all of motor racing. Major changes include mild dial and case revisions as well as a new Rolex caliber 4131 movement , but the Daytona remains a 40mm watch. The 2023 Rolex Daytona costs $15,100 in stainless steel and ceramic.
Although the Daytona in platinum is not new for '23, the appearance of a Rolex chronograph with a sapphire display caseback is a first. Now ten years old, the platinum Daytona 126506 celebrates its birthday with a transparent caseback that highlights the newly refined finishing of the caliber 4131 movement. Although technically similar to the previous 4130, the 4131 includes a rotor, cotes de Geneve bridges, and neater beveled anglage designed to be seen.
The Daytona shares top 2023 billing with the first Rolex Yacht Master to be made of titanium, reference 226667. The 42mm Yacht Master in grade five titanium includes a bidirectional timing bezel with a black Cerachrom ceramic insert. Rolex caliber 3235 is automatic winding, chronometer certified, and offers 70 hours of power reserve. The titanium Yacht Master is available only on a matching titanium bracelet for the time being. The titanium Rolex Yacht Master remains 100 meters water resistant and costs $14,050.
Other Rolex model launches include the Rolex Perpetual 1908 (references 52508 and 52509), a 39mm gold dress watch designed to replace the discontinued Rolex Cellini collection. For $7,700, a 40mm Rolex Explorer (224270) returns to the catalog and provides an intermediate size between its 36mm and 42mm brothers. The flamboyant new Rolex "Celebration dial" graces the Oyster Perpetual collection, and it's destined to be a controversial addition. Even more controversial is the new "jigsaw" or "puzzle" dial for the Day Date 36 that includes uplifting words in place of the day and emoji symbols in place of the date. New dials grace the Sky Dweller for 2023, and the GMT Master II in steel and yellow gold ("Yellow Rolesor") returns to the catalog for the first time since 2023.
