How The Omega Seamaster Changed My Life

Tim Mosso has lived luxury watches as a life and livelihood for over a decade, so when he says watches changed his life, it's no hype. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M - specifically reference 2255.80, grabbed him in high school and never let go. From that first Omega Seamaster admired through the window of a mall Tourneau to the pocket watch that changed his perspective on watchmaking, Watches Tonight takes our viewers on a tour of the watches that changed Tim Mosso's life.
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M officially launched in 1993 - as a quartz watch. Later introduced as a mechanical chronometer, the Diver 300M gained fame - and market longevity - as the watch worn by Pierce Brosnan in his role as James Bond. But the year 2000 brought a different kind of Omega Seamaster - the electric blue dial Seamaster 2255.80.00. Now, this isn't a different watch on the inside, but on the outside, its electrifyingly reflective blue dial and broadsword hands convinced a young Tim Mosso to abandon his worship of the Rolex Submariner. Later an Omega Seamaster owner, Tim owes his early path as a watch collector to the influence of the "electric blue" Seamaster.
In fact, Tim experienced several of the watches mentioned tonight at the old Tourneau watch dealer chain. Now branded "Bucherer," Tourneau was the place for American kids in the 1990s to see watches rarely available anywhere else. In malls across America, Tourneau was like a beacon for young people who knew they'd never see a Zenith, Glashutte Original, or platinum Rolex Day Date at any local jeweler. And the preowned watch cases opened even more possibilities like the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Geographic Tim encountered as a young college graduate.
Hear Tim's account of these watches as well as his 1926 Illinois Bunn pocket watch and the stirring IWC Da Vinci Tourbillon reference 3752.
