Between the GPHG Awards, Only Watch Auction, and the Phillips Auction featuring five F.P. Journe #1 Souscription pieces, it’s been a busy week in the watch world and Mike Manjos is here to cover it all. Before diving into the auction world, he breaks out some of his favorite pieces from the WatchBox inventory. These include IWC’s not-so-big 43mm Big Pilot's Watch, the Czapek Antarctique Terre Adelie and a Rolex Day-Date with Eisenkiesel dial.
Mike covers the GPHG awards where Bulgari took home the Aiguille d’Or with their Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar, and highlights some major victories for MB&F with their Legacy Machine and LMX models. De Bethune won the Tourbillon watch prize for their Kind of Two Tourbillon. However, the main focus of this week’s show is the two major auctions this weekend with Only Watch and Phillips both hosting.
At Only Watch, the F.P. Journe Francis Ford Coppola Blue set a brand record, coming in just shy of $5 million. The Patek Philippe Desk Clock and Audemars Piguet 15202 also caught the attention of many collectors and helped increase the auction’s total to more than $30 million for the charity event in support of research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Meanwhile, Philippe Dufour, F.P. Journe, and A. Lange & Sohne were all the big winners at Phillips with new benchmarks being set across the brands.
