Luxury watches cost serious money, but value is relative. Both a Rolex Submariner and a Tudor Pelagos are excellent dive watches, but the Tudor costs half as much. Tonight, Tim Mosso compares competing luxury watches at different price points to find the best value in each class. From Tudor to Omega to Chopard, we have alternatives to the usual suspects for watch collectors of all budgets.
Compare the Rolex Submariner to the Tudor Pelagos LHD. The 41mm steel Submariner Date costs $10,250, and the Pelagos LHD costs $5,025. The Rolex is guaranteed to hold its value and is worth the wait, but those without the means or the patience will be well served by the Pelagos. Its deluxe extensible diving clasp, 500-meter diving depth, and helium escape valve make the Pelagos LHD a viable alternative not only to the Rolex Submariner but also to the Rolex Sea Dweller.
