The Price of Watches - Buy These Watches To Beat The Market

The price of watches seems to rise every day. Even used watches appear to gain value faster than most watch collectors can bargain for raises or save money. But it's possible to beat the market for watches from Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Omega. Tonight, Tim Mosso discusses how to buy watches before prices go crazy.
Rolex watches typically command attention from buyers. Genuine "secrets" unnoticed by used watch markets are rare. But the Yacht-Master 2 in white gold (116689) is one example of a rare Rolex watch that costs less than it could. Although the white gold and platinum Yacht Master II was made from 2007 to 2022, its final dial was produced only from 2017 to 2022. That, and very few people bothered to buy the white gold model after the arrival of the stainless steel Yacht-Master in 2013. As a result, the final dial of the white gold model is the rarest Yacht Master 2 of all. Its market value of $40,000-$50,000 does not reflect its rarity.
The Rolex Cellini Moonphase (50535) arrived in 2017 to great acclaim. As the first Rolex moonphase watch since the 1950s, it brought new energy and attention to the Rolex Cellini line of dress watches. With a rose gold case, pointer date, and a moonphase disc made out of enamel and meteorite, there's no doubt the Cellini had grace.
But the Rolex Moonphase failed to hold the attention of Rolex buyers, and it was replaced by the Rolex Perpetual 1908 in 2023. That said, the Cellini Moonphase is a gorgeous watch whose market is developing only a year after the reference was discontinued. Used examples of the Cellini Moophase already command prices close to the original retail price of the watch. It hasn't caught fire or become a trendy collectible by any means, but a firm floor beneath prices and plenty of potential for rediscovery make this rare Rolex a real opportunity for collectors seeking to beat the market.
Tonight's episode includes all of these models plus watches from the following brands; Patek Philippe; Vacheron Constantin, Omega, Zenith, IWC, and Breguet.
All of this plus live discussion and watch collector wrist shots appears tonight on "Watches Tonight!"
