The minimum watch collection is... three watches. One watch isn't a collection, two watches doesn't give enough variety, but three watches is a true watch collection with room for themes, complications, styles, and different watch brands. Tonight, Tim Mosso shares his three-watch collections and how to collect watches when every choice counts.
A solid three-watch collection might include something like this: an Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, a Zenith Captain Winsor Annual Calendar, and a Moritz Grossmann GMT. The "James Bond" Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 2531.80.00 is a legend. As the most glamorous, longest-lasting, and most recognizable Omega Seamaster model of all time, it's the only Seamaster that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Rolex Submariner as a dive watch icon. The earliest models also include tritium dials, so this Seamaster doubles as your vintage watch in the three-watch collection.
Add a chronograph, a calendar, and a Zenith El Primero with the Zenith Captain Winsor Annual Calendar Boutique Edition. Launched in 2013, this 42mm steel chronograph includes an annual calendar designed by watchmaking great Ludwig Oechslin. Its unique smoked palladium dial means this ranks among the few Zenith El Primero watches that has the style to live up to the legend of its movement.
Finally, go high horology, add a dress watch, add a German watch, and add a dual time watch with the Moritz Grossmann GMT. A 41mm gold dress timepiece built to the highest standards of modern German watchmaking, it boasts the kind of scintillating finish and exhaustive details reserved for only the most expensive and elite A. Lange & Sohne watch models. Moritz Grossmann is a Glashutte independent watch brand with innovative ideas like the GMT's compact orbital 24-hour secondary time zone. With production at a rate of one tenth - or less - compared to A. Lange & Sohne, Moritz Grossmann can apply extra care and effort to decorate each movement in modern-day German watchmaking style.
