Rolex, Patek Philippe, and other top luxury watch brands have witnessed price deflation in 2022. But even with major models like the Rolex GMT Master declining in value, it's still possible to pay too much money for a watch in today's marketplace. This episode of "Watches Tonight" is for value hunters with a middle class budget and the discipline to seek good value. From the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch series to Rolex's own Yacht Master and Deepsea Sea Dweller, the range of luxury watch values in today's market should satisfy any collector's taste and budget.
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Grey Side of the Moon is a 44.25mm grey ceramic masterpiece. It's also a tremendous value as a preowned luxury watch. Omega's charismatic grey chronograph launched in 2014 as the counterpart to the 2013 Dark Side of The Moon. At retail prices, the Omega Grey Side of The Moon costs $12,000 with a ceramic pin buckle and $13,600 with a deployant clasp made of ceramic and titanium. Both versions depreciate significantly as used watches; a used Omega Grey Side can cost between $8,000 and $9,000.
Omega watchmakers designed the Speedmaster Moonwatch Grey Side of The Moon as a more versatile watch than the Dark Side. The light weight ceramic construction and case size remained, but Omega added a sensational platinum dial with white gold hands and indices in place of the Dark Side's black ceramic. The chronograph system on the Grey Side includes a mono-counter at three o'clock that maintains the symmetry of a twin-register chronograph with the utility of a true three-register design.
The Omega co-axial caliber 9300 powers the Moonwatch Grey Side. This automatic movement includes a 60-hour power reserve via twin mainspring barrels in series. Its chronograph functions are controlled by a vertical clutch and a visible column wheel. The silicon hairspring and antimagnetic escapement render the Speedmaster Moonwatch Grey Side nearly impervious to the effects of magnetism. Each Omega caliber 9300 includes the George Daniels-conceived co-axial escapement in its latest tri-level form. The caliber 9300 receives further refinement pursuant to certification as a COSC Swiss chronometer. Hacking seconds and an independently mobile hour hand round out the features of this movement.
All of this plus watch collector wrist shots will be featured in this episode of "Watches Tonight!"
