Mike Manjos is back in action this week and he's breaking down recent auction results and their bearing on the luxury watch market. But before we turn our attention to last weekend's Racing Pulse auction at Phillips, Mike brings out three spectacular new arrivals to WatchBox's inventory for discussion. Among the watches discussed today are the Patek Philippe Complications Skeleton with hand-engraved decoration (Ref. 5180/1R), the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon Chronograph Openworked (26343CE.OO.1247C), and the Patek Philippe Complications Chronograph (Ref. 5170G-010), with a stunning black dial and Breguet numerals.
Our main topic this week is the Phillips Racing Pulse auction, during which many new records were set, and just about 99% of the lots were sold. Mike breaks things down brand by brand and model by model, beginning with Paul Newman's 'other' Rolex Daytona and a Heuer Monaco gifted by Steve McQueen to his personal mechanic. He also discusses A. Lange & Söhne's continual rise - including a new benchmark for first-generation Datographs and the first Odysseus in steel to hit the auctions, the remarkable result for F.P. Journe's Vagabondage III, and the strengthening in performance of Patek Philippe.
Finally, Mike dives into what we're looking to buy this week, pointing to the Rolex GMT-Master II in yellow gold with a green dial, the white gold blue-dialed Rolex Daytona, and A. Lange & Söhne Datographs. Contact one of our client advisors [[email protected]] to talk about the process of selling your watch to WatchBox – whether you have one of these models or another timepiece you wish to sell or trade.
