Market Wrap with Mike Manjos

A new episode of Market Wrap means a new assortment of watches have come across Mike Manjos’ desk for us to explore today. The conversation kicks off with A. Lange & Söhne’s Zeitwerk Striking Time in hand, which features a jumping numerals display and a visible striking mechanism. Other highlights include the beloved Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and a special edition Memovox in a brilliant shade of blue from Jaeger-LeCoultre.
For our main topic, Mike reflects on the state of the luxury watch market through the lens of experience – his 37+ years in the industry. He sums things up succinctly: the market is crazy hot. From vintage to new goods, and of course, the modern pre-owned realm, the watch market – particularly the Rolex market – is strong. Gold Day-Dates, platinum models, and all things in between quickly pass through our inventory. And as we track the rising secondary market values, the inherent value and opportunity in mid-range brands are made clear.
Mike discusses this week’s surprise introductions from A. Lange & Söhne upon the 175th anniversary of the German manufacture. A new Saxonia Outsize Date was launched in pink and white gold, and the Saxonia Thin made our hearts beat faster with its stunning (and sparkling) black aventurine dial.
The last auctions of 2020 are taking place in New York this weekend, and we are paying close attention to Patek Philippe. The auction market has been strengthening across the brand, particularly with respect to vintage models, annual calendars, and Calatravas; and we’re now keeping an eye on Patek perpetuals.
As always, Market Wrap closes with several models we are looking to acquire for WatchBox’s inventory. This week we’re keeping the spotlight on Patek Philippe, seeking a range of models and complications, including the Patek Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5320, the tonneau-shaped Gondolo Annual Calendar Ref. 5135, and the two-register Chronograph Ref. 5170P. Contact one of our client advisors [[email protected]] to talk about the process of selling your watch to WatchBox – whether you have one of these models or another timepiece you wish to sell or trade.
