The 2022 Omega Speedmaster '57 is all-new for the first time in nine years. Now smaller, manual wind, and offered in a wide range of colors, the "vintage" inspired Speedmaster '57 is the best watch to buy if you are looking for a chronograph below $10,000 from one of the best watch brands in the business.

When it launched in 2013, the original Speedmaster '57 was a thick automatic watch with a 41.5mm case diameter. The design was strong, and the movements were state-of-the-art, but the package was too bulky to evoke actual vintage models. The only true unproductive change to the watch is the reduction of 2021's 100-meter water resistance to 50-meters for 2022.

Omega's 2022 Speedmaster '57 makes significant updates to this 1950s-inspired chronograph watch. First, the 40.5mm case is a better match not just for its vintage Omega CK2915 forebear but for 2022 watch buyer tastes. The stainless steel case also grows thinner thanks to a new Omega caliber 9906 manual wind movement. While the Co-Axial escapement, silicon hairspring, 60-hour power reserve, and vertical clutch/column wheel tandem remain, the 9906 movement gains METAS certification. Now a Master Chronometer, the Speedmaster 57 comes fully vetted by the METAS battery of tests.

Several dial colors are available for the Speedmaster 57. The new metallic green, blue, and burgundy dials features rich sunburst patterns. Watch collectors who choose the black dial received vintage inspired "recessed" indices filled with simulated patina ecru luminova.

The "vintage dial" Speedmaster '57 is the watch guided mostly directly by the actual 1957 Omega Speedmaster reference CK2915. That watch, which was distinguished by its tachymeter bezel, here finds a close parallel with a modern laser-etched tachymetre scale. "Dot over 90" and and "diagonal 70" details have been retained from the original Omega Speedmaster model.

Both straps and bracelets are available for the 2022 Omega Speedmaster 57. Leather straps are standard, but an optional three-link stainless steel bracelet can be added. New for 2022 is a micro-adjustment system in the clasp of the stainless steel bracelet. The 2022 Speedmaster '57 costs $8,600 on the bracelet and $8,300 on the leather strap.
