Today's show theme is "yellow gold watches." Tim Mosso and Brian Govberg return with the best luxury watch brands in their hands as we sample preowned watches from the incomparable WatchBox inventory.
Tim's selections include highlights from Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Grand Seiko.
The Patek Philippe 5070J is the king of chronographs, and Tim is clear that the yellow gold Patek 5070 is his favorite. Grand Seiko's signature 9S mechanical caliber celebrates its 20th anniversary in style courtesy of the SBGH266, a yellow gold limited edition of 150 pieces with a dramatic silver Grand Seiko "mosaic" dial. Finally, a 1996 vintage Rolex Daytona 16518 on a leather strap showcases the Zenith El Primero era of Rolex Cosmograph Daytona movements.
Brian completes our sextet of "montres en or jaune" with three standouts from Girard Perregaux, Patek, and Rolex.
A Rolex GMT-Master II 16713 "rootbeer" dial with "two tone" steel-gold construction highlights 1980s high-style and the potential of yellow gold in combination with steel. The Patek Philippe 5146J annual calendar moonphase is an early example of the type; a caliber 315 base, a flat folding clasp without Calatrava cross, and the Geneva hallmark on the movement mark this as one of the first 5146 units built by Patek. Finally, there's the Girard Perregaux Scuderia Ferrari 70th Anniversary Chronograph Rattrapante Foudroyante. This 250-piece limited edition features the flying seconds hand and split seconds chronograph promised by the watch's voluminous name.
